Interns will learn to handle and present Education Ambassador Animals and lead behind-the-scenes interactions as part of the Summer Zoo Camp curriculum. The intern will enforce rules with each group to ensure the safety of the staff, campers, and animals, and will lead campers in encounters using interpretation techniques and specific questioning skills to push campers&rsquo; critical thinking. DEFINITION
The Education Ambassador Intern supports our popular Summer Zoo Camp learning experiences. Interns are responsible for leading animal encounters with our ambassador animals for our summer campers. They must have an appreciation for environmental and science education and a commitment to conservation and working with children. They should be prepared to learn about current education methods for child-led science investigations, Next Generation Science Standards, and encourage children to make discoveries for themselves. This is a great experience for anyone wanting to go into environmental, zoo or science education, and is a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Education Department of an AZA Accredited zoo. An interest in working with children is essential.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The Zoo Education Ambassador Internship is 40 hours a week from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, from May 21st to August 29th, 2025. Under supervision, the intern will perform duties necessary to support Summer Zoo Camp and other educational programming as well as follow AZA standards and zoo protocols for working with zoo animals. Interns will learn to handle and present Education Ambassador Animals and lead behind-the-scenes interactions as part of the Summer Zoo Camp curriculum. The intern will enforce rules with each group to ensure the safety of the staff, campers, and animals, and will lead campers in encounters using interpretation techniques and specific questioning skills to push campers’ critical thinking. During their internship, interns work on a personal project for the Zoo.

Requires training and/or experience equivalent to one semester of college. Prefer majors with an interest in a career in Environmental Education.

DEFINITION
Under the day-to-day supervision of the Aging and Disability Resource Center Manager or ADRC Program Specialist and the designated supervising attorney, offers information, counseling and assistance related to individual eligibility for, and problems with, public benefits and services to include Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, Prescription Drug Assistance, and other financial and consumer concerns to adults between the ages of 18 to 59 with a disability. Coordinates with other county, community, and governmental agencies.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Advises and counsels consumers and their families regarding eligibility rules and application procedures for public and private benefits and programs; provides information and assistance by personal and virtual meetings and through phone communications; assists consumers in gathering documentation and evidence for applications and appeals; assesses needs of individuals and records actions taken and contact made to ensure progress is made with each consumer. Represents consumers as an advocate in adverse decisions made by administrative agencies in regard to public benefits; provides information and assistance regarding grievance and appeal rights and processes to consumers in the event of a negative action; counsels with supervisory attorneys about issues and concerns; provides accurate and timely information in accordance with accepted practices and procedures, adhering to confidentiality standards. Develops and updates distributed materials which serve as tools for information and program promotion; reads related materials in an effort to maintain current knowledge of developing and newly established changes in benefit programs, legislation, policies and procedures. Provides information about other community agencies to consumers and makes appropriate referrals; networks with other related agencies and resources for the purpose of establishing effective working relationships and obtaining current information on programs. Arranges and provides benefit-related workshops on topics for the purpose of providing consumers with current and accurate information and resources. Provides benefit-related training to professionals and in some cases, volunteers. Completes all required paperwork in a timely manner. Participates in the work setting as a team player. Participates in the planning and goal setting efforts of the ADRC.
Education, Experience and Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a human service-related field, and at least two years experience in a disability-related professional position required. Experience with Social Security, Medicare, Medical Assistance, SSI, and other public benefit programs preferred.

Special Requirements:
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license (or eligibility for) and access to reliable personal motor vehicle transportation. New Disability Benefit Specialists must attend the introductory and ongoing training required by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Aging and Disability Resource Center.
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job’s responsibilities.  For Bilingual Positions:
