Job Description

Elgin Energy is accepting applications for our 2024 Graduate Programme.

The successful graduate would be expected to start in September/October 2024.

What You Will Do


 * Apply your electrical engineering knowledge to undertake detailed electrical design for the connection of utility scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to high voltage distribution networks.
 * Work in collaboration with construction team and contractors to ensure designs are executed safely and correctly.
 * Develop skills to undertake detailed technical simulations and power system studies to demonstrate compliance with network operator requirements.
 * Develop and foster close working relationships with distribution network operators to collaborate and negotiate on grid connection options, costs, and timelines.
 * Support, and learn from, Senior Engineers in the creation of high quality design packages from concept design through to construction.
 * Manage relationships with suppliers and assist in the specification and procurement of critical equipment.
 * Manage a database of grid connection costs for primary, secondary, and auxiliary electrical equipment associated with the connection of solar PV and BESS projects.
 * Progressively establish sound engineering standards, systems and procedures for Elgin Energy’s electrical engineering and grid connection activities.
 * Stay abreast of latest industry developments relevant to grid connections in the policy, industry standards and technologies.

What You Will Need


 * Degree in Electrical Engineering.
 * Technical understanding of the operation of high voltage electricity grids.
 * Knowledge of the technical characteristics of utility scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is desirable but not essential.
 * Knowledge of a AUTOCAD software.
 * Passionate about solving complex problems to contribute to the energy transition.
 * Excellent inter-disciplinary communication and presentation skills.
 * Strong time management, organisational and report writing skills.
 * Ability to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders effectively.

In 2020, the company partnered, in separate transactions, with both Foresight Group and Metka-EGN in relation to two portfolios to deliver a total of 276MW of UK solar development projects and was successful with two Irish solar projects in Ireland’s first solar auction, RESS-1 – Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.
