About

Welcome to UCLMUN 2024, the decennial edition of the in-person model UN conference hosted by University College London's United Nations Association (UCLUNA) in London from 25th to 27th October 2024 - one of the largest conferences hosted in UK, and the first UK-based European Conference of 2024/2025. Last year's UCLMUN 2023 was a tremendous success, with over 200 participants, collaborations with think tanks and UN initiatives, the first ever simulation of the 2024 Summit of the Future, and resolutions channelled into the UN, most prominently the UNHCR. This year's theme is A New Dawn: Towards a Decade of Leadership, Innovation, and Diplomatic Excellence as we prepare to reimagine the world for future generations, and in this light, we are expecting even bigger collaborations with NGOs and fellow conferences across the globe to provide our delegates with a platform to foster change, to engage in real, diplomatic discussions on the future of the world we live in and to influence actual UN reforms. Delegates can look forward to participating in a variety of committees such as the UNSC, UNHCR, ECOSOC, WHA, Crisis and the Council of the EU (held in French). This year we also introduce a very specialised historical international tribunal - the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY). A committee for each area of interest. What can you expect from UCLMUN 2024? A 3-day MUN conference run by experienced organizers and chairs Debating in London, a global metropolis and the world's no.2 Financial Hub High-level debates at one of the World's 9th Ranking University (QS 2024) and a member of G5 Universities. 3 awesome social events for relaxing and networking A goodie bag for the conference The Polaris Journal, with articles covering all debated topics A conference with sustainability as a keystone in its organisation Our delegate fees are set at £38 for non-UCLUNA members and £32 for members. Unfortunately, due to university regulations, we cannot process payments through myMUN. We extend our gratitude to our grant funders for making UCLMUN one of the most affordable international experiences. All that being said, join us for this ground-breaking experience that promises not just to enlighten but to empower the next generation of global leaders. We eagerly await your participation in this intellectually stimulating journey. See you in October! UCLMUN 2024 Secretariat Team

About

University College London United Nations Association (UCLUNA) is the official branch of the UNA UK at UCL. UCLUNA aims to raise awareness and provide opportunities to experience the work of the United Nations (UN), Model United Nations (MUN), international affairs, and diplomacy. Within a vibrant community of over 150 paid society members (2022/2023) for this year we are excited to bring to you: Our very own Conference (UCLMUN 2023), Travelling UCLUNA Delegations, Weekly Debates and Skills Sessions, Embassy Visits, Guest Speaker and Career Events, and Socials. We can’t wait to meet you in September! As one of UCL’s most dynamic societies, we welcome students of all degree programmes, interests, backgrounds, and levels of experience at MUN, from first-time university novices to seasoned delegates. If you are interested in engaging with the United Nations or want to learn more about diplomacy in action or improve key research, debate, and communication skills, then this is the society for you. What is our Agenda for 2023/2024? UCLMUN 2023 | 24-26 November In what promises to be our flagship event for the year, UCLUNA is making a comeback with its first MUN conference since 2018. Our theme the “Reigniting Global Cooperation” will be happening in line with major structural reforms of the UN within the next two years. With six committees ranging from beginner to advanced and with approximately 150 delegates, this conference, particularly the “Summit of the Future” committee, will serve as a testing ground for what our generation wants to see change at the UN and global politics. Resolutions made at this conference will be analysed by our partner NGO, Coalition for the UN We Need, and very possibly the UN itself. To find out more about UCLMUN 2023, participating as a delegate, or signing up as a chair click here: https://www.uclmun.uk Travelling UCLUNA Delegations In addition to UCLMUN this November, we are looking forward to sending out partially subsidised delegations to conferences with a range of size and difficulties. This will be the best way to put into practice what you have gained from our weekly debates and seminar sessions. Even better, go for the Best Committee Delegate Award. UCL needs you! This year we are looking into: ULMUN, HULTMUN, WARMUN, LSEMUN, LIMUN, OXMUN, CAMMUN, and SCOTMUN and more! Details to be released soon. Provided demand, we also can arrange delegations overseas, such as our HarvardxWorldMUN team in 2022/2023. Weekly Debates and Skills Sessions Every week on Tuesday, from 630PM - 830PM, UCLUNA hold training sessions in the form of MUN simulations and skills seminars. These will be curated to be both accessible for both beginners and entertaining for veterans. Through these you will develop your research, debate, and communication skills to put you in the best position to compete and win awards at UCLMUN 2023 and other conferences. Recent debates have included the Korean War, the return and restitution of ancient artefacts, climate, and security in Africa. Note: Venues will be updated weekly on the @ucl.una instagram page. Embassy Visits At the heart of London, UCLUNA this year is fortunate to be welcoming members to embassies from Europe to Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. (hint: out first will be the High Commission India on October 13). These will serve as an unparalleled in-person opportunities to understand a wide spectrum of geopolitical viewpoints, how the world of diplomacy works, in addition to the chance to network with diplomats, ambassadors, and more. Guest Speaker and Career Events With regular careers and speakers’ events, UCLUNA is committed to broadening and deepening its members’ understanding of past, present, and future challenges of the United Nations, diplomacy, international relations, and careers within the field. Recently we have welcomed guest speakers from the Stimson Centre, European Commission, and ex-NATO to discuss topics ranging from reform of the UN, energy diplomacy, and international development. This year we are also exploring possible partnerships to offer diplomacy-related career experience.
