About

  • Due to popular demand, WiFi Wars will be back at the Ri for the ninth time! Join the team to hear what they've been up to over the last couple of years and for a sneak peak of their latest tech.
  • An interactive live comedy game show, WiFi Wars is one of our most anticipated events here at the Ri, and not just because of the prizes up for grabs! Join us and log in with your (fully charged) smartphone or tablet to compete in a wicked range of games, quizzes and challenges.
  • Steve McNeil and Rob Sedgebeer most recently featured in our 2022 CHRISTMAS LECTURES with Dame Sue Black, but first appeared at the Ri back in 2014. Since then they've performed shows at the Ri that have been so successful that even a Guiness World Record was broken (most people playing a single game of pong - we broke the previous record by 35 people!).
  • Come along for another night of wireless fun, suitable for adults and older teenagers.

Mission & Purpose

The Royal Institution is an independent charity dedicated to connecting people with the world of science. Science shapes our lives, our culture and the world around us. It’s the medical treatment that may save your life. It’s the device in your pocket that connects you to the world. And it’s how we will solve the major global challenges of the future. Our mission is to harness science for the maximum benefit of society. The importance of our mission cannot be overstated. It was recognised by the 58 wealthy individuals who founded the Ri in 1799 and is just as relevant today. But to achieve the full benefits of what science has to offer, we must ensure that there is a healthy interaction between science and society – something we have pioneered for more than 200 years. There are multiple ways to get involved and support the Ri and to think more deeply about the wonders and applications of science.
