Requirements

  • Core Gameplay Design:
  • Experience with Unity, Unreal, or other game engines
  • An understanding of fundamental game design principles and what makes games fun
  • Strong ability to collaborate with others and incorporate feedback into your designs
  • Systems Design:
  • Familiarity with scripting languages and a solid math foundation
  • Creative writing skills for wording of abilities, items, features, and tooltips
  • Analytical skills for evaluating gameplay systems and interpreting player behavior
  • AI Design:
  • Possess an interest of how enemy/creature mechanics play in a combat model
  • Experience designing and building creatures and encounters
  • Familiarity with AI scripting and logic
  • World/Level Design:
  • Experience creating 3D terrain for game engines (Unreal, Unity, Lumberyard etc)
  • A keen interest in the level design processes including, but not limited to; level flow, engagement design, visual worldbuilding, pacing, storytelling, etc.
  • Good spatial and layout design skills, accompanied with solid game design sensibilities 
  • Player Profile:
  • Pursuing an associates, bachelors, masters, or PhD and graduating April 2024 – July 2025
  • Available to participate in a 12-week internship starting in late-May or mid-June
  • Currently residing in the US or open to relocating oneself to the US
  • Exhibits learning agility; has the ability to think differently, and/or grasp and apply new skills and concepts
  • Approaches problems in a clear, well-organized, and solutions-oriented manner
  • Works well with others and contributes to team tasks
  • Able to effectively communicate problems, solutions, needs, or priorities
  • Is engaged, seeks to learn, and is able to manage time effectively

Responsibilities

  • Core Gameplay Design:
  • Work closely with artists, designers, and engineers to create, implement, and polish gameplay around existing systems and mechanics. You’ll learn how game systems and game content work together to create a fun and compelling player experience.
  • Systems Design:
  • Leveraging creative and critical thinking, our Systems Designers help drive long-term player engagement through various game-wide systems such as combat, rewards, and activities. Work closely with our design team on scripting events, systems implementation, design documentation, and all things gameplay related.
  • AI Design:
  • This position involves the design and implementation of monsters, bosses, creature behavior, enemy spawning, and placement in the game’s world. You will collaborate with our design and engineering teams to build gameplay experiences that inspire, satisfy, and challenge our players.
  • World/Level Design:
  • A hybrid of game design and art; Level Designers build the highly immersive worlds and gameplay spaces enjoyed by our players. Create fun and interesting levels by utilizing environmental composition, 3D terrain sculpting, and detailed visual storytelling through asset placement.
