Requirements

  • An honours degree or equivalent – from a wide range of relevant subject areas; i.e. those from those more traditionally associated with STEM, like Maths, Biology and Physics, or more technical such as Computer Science. If your degree includes data analysis and critical thinking, we'd like to hear from you.
  • A specific specialisation in data science is not required, however passion for the subject and introductory knowledge of both programming and statistics is required
  • Penultimate year of study. Unfortunately we no longer accept applications from final year students considering further studies (i.e. Masters) upon completion of undergraduate course
  • Exposure to programming, preferably in R, Python and/or SQL
  • Statistical knowledge, including at least multivariate linear regression

Responsibilities

  • Making available new data sources
  • Unlocking the value in data by providing a research service, answering business questions by reviewing these datasets
  • Scaling the value in data by building Insight Products: generalising those findings or anticipating those questions by alerting people to relevant changes before they know to ask
  • Helping out across a diverse array of the team's activities
  • Completing a personal research project under the supervision of one of our experienced data scientists
  • Presenting the personal research project to the wider team at the end of the internship

The competitive salary for the internship is £37,000 pro rata for the 10-week programme.

The internship programme starts on Monday, 9 June 2025, and ends on Friday, 15 August 2025.

Who is eligible to apply for the internship?

The internship is open to penultimate year students studying a relevant subject area, such as STEM or other technical fields, with an interest in data science.

What kind of training will interns receive?

Interns will benefit from a series of immersive training sessions covering industry knowledge, technical skills, and soft skills to help them adapt to the world of work.

Will there be opportunities for networking during the internship?

Yes, interns will have opportunities to network through events like "Lunch and Learns" and "Coffee Hours" led by senior leaders across the business.

Are there any specific programming skills required for the internship?

Exposure to programming, preferably in R, Python, and/or SQL, is required, along with a basic understanding of statistics.

Does the internship include a research project?

Yes, interns will complete a personal research project under the supervision of an experienced data scientist and present it to the wider team at the end of the internship.

Desired but not essential skills include knowledge of Machine Learning, Big Data, statistical modelling, information visualisation, and relevant industry knowledge.
