Off-cycle Internship



  • We are looking for a Business Intelligence Intern to join us for a 8-month internship at our Toronto office. (May - Dec 2024)
  • The GTS Urban Rail Signaling is a global business line with over 800 Engineers in multiple centers (Canada, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East and more), and its core located in Toronto, Canada. It has approximately 5000 Engineers spanning Systems, Hardware, Software and IVVQ Engineering Disciplines, plus specialty engineering such as Cyber, Data, AI (Artificial Intelligence), Safety and RAMT.  
  • The Business Intelligence Intern’s main responsibility is to design, build and maintain Business Intelligence (BI) reports and dashboards supporting the Engineering organization’s objectives.
  • This role will report to the Director of Engineering Operations. Daily activities will be coordinated by Engineering Deputy-Process Owner & Continuous Improvement Lead, as you interact with VP of Engineering, Engineering Heads of Discipline, Process Analysts and the wider organization.  


  • Fluent in English both in written and oral communication
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Experienced in preparing and giving presentations
  • Experienced in producing PowerBI Dashboards
  • Experienced in UI/UX Design and Data Analysis
  • Experienced in ELT Concepts and Scripting.
  • Able to work full time (40 hours) on the start date and for the agreed work term with a minimum of 2 days (16 hours) in the Toronto office
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Minimum 1 year completed in a degree in a field related to Engineering, Design, or Data

Area of Responsibilities



  • Produce and maintain high-integrity PowerBI dashboards that analyze performance and operations of the Engineering department
  • Use data from Engineering tools to analyze performance in Engineering activities (DOORS - Requirements Management; Bitbucket– Software Development; Clearquest/SharedPalma – Configuration Management, Technical Debt)
  • Use data from enterprise tools to analyze wider business operations (SAP, Workday, Primavera – Purchasing, Resourcing, Budget and costs tracking)
  • Use key UI/UX principles including validating dashboards against User requirements
  • Promoting digitalization and data-driven operations
  • Highlight areas of poor data maturity and propose corrective actions
  • Provide end user training and technical support for using PowerBI and on UI/UX design
  • Ability to Define, Build and Document Extraction, Transition and Loading (ETL) pipelines
  • Experience with Scripting such as Python
