Summer Internship

Research & Development, ScienceSeattle

  • Internships typically start in June and run through August/September.
  • Global Health Labs is seeking an advanced undergraduate or graduate-level Intern to join a dynamic R&D team that pushes the cutting edge of what is possible in cost, ease of use, and performance for assays designed for low resource settings in developing countries.

Role Summary:

  • The CRISPR Assay Intern will support research and development of novel molecular diagnostics platforms, in service of GH Labs’ mission. These novel platforms support health interventions for diseases that most disproportionately affect people in developing countries, including tuberculosis, malaria, parasitic infections, cervical cancer, and others. The Intern will report to a Principal Research Scientist and will collaborate with colleagues across the multidisciplinary Diagnostics R&D team, which is responsible for inventing, developing, and bringing to market new technologies to solve global health problems in the area of infectious diseases.

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program in biochemistry, molecular biology, or other life science program.
  • Skilled in coherent experimental design and execution, with strong, practical laboratory skills in biochemistry or molecular biology.
  • Experience with kinetic assays, enzymes/proteins, or assay development is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated capacity to utilize and maintain a wide array of biology laboratory instrumentation and systems.
  • Previous experience working in a BSL2 laboratory and familiarity with biological safety practices.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, including use of software such as Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to maintain accurate written records.
