Description

  • The ISIS Neutron and Muon source is a world-leading research facility based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. Scientists from around the world use our advanced suite of instruments to probe materials on the atomic scale; conducting experiments designed to push the frontiers of clean energy, pharmaceuticals, materials engineering and many other subjects.
  • At the heart of the facility is an 800 MeV synchrotron particle accelerator, producing intense proton beams that go on to create muons and neutrons for experiments. ISIS-II is a proposed successor for ISIS, and its driving accelerator is currently an exciting area of research. The successful candidate will join a small team of physicists and engineers and design a new diagnostic sensor for a prototype accelerator, the FETS-FFA.
