Requirements

  • University education: having graduated with a Bachelor in economics or finance, and ideally a MSc in economics or finance, is a prerequisite. The candidate may be enrolled in a PhD programme in economics or finance.
  • Ability to work with statistical software, such as Stata, R or Python, is essential.
  • Good knowledge of economic theory, corporate finance or advanced statistical methods for the econometric analysis of macroeconomic, microeconomic or financial data is essential.
  • Previous experience with large datasets, including firm-level data (e.g. Bureau Van Dijk's Orbis or Enterprise Surveys data), is considered as an advantage.
  • Previous work experience or University studies focusing on the analysis of data on firm dynamics, public or private investment, investment finance, financial sector performance or corporate finance is considered as an advantage.
  • Analytical skills and ability to clearly communicate results are essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a (senior) economist of the Economics Department, you will carry out work related to various projects, such as the development and management of macroeconomic, microeconomic and financial databases, economic analysis for the preparation of the EIB Investment Report and other reports of the Department, the EIB Investment Survey (EIBIS), the EIB municipality survey, the CESEE bank lending survey, the EIB Banking in Africa Survey, internal models for sovereign risk rating and bank industry risk ratings, and macroeconomic scenarios, among others.
  • Extract, develop, prepare and manage large datasets for econometric and statistical analysis.
  • Prepare basic descriptive statistics, charts, tables and short reports based on data analysis.
  • Co-operate with (senior) economists in developing econometric and statistical models for data analysis.
  • Co-operate and assist (senior) economists in exploring and interpreting the results from the econometric and statistical analysis, providing economic rationale and drawing policy conclusions.
  • Draft short literature reviews on topics that are relevant to the projects of the Economics Department.
