Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate students working toward a degree in public policy, political science, communications, journalism, and/or media relations or related fields are encouraged to apply. Our most successful interns have strong writing, social media, analytical, and multi-tasking skills. Experience with copy editing is preferred.
  • Note: Applicants must submit a writing sample. Selected finalists will be asked to complete a writing assessment.
  • Additional Information:  
  • This internship requires you to be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.

Responsibilities

  • Students will provide direct support to the Governance Studies communications team and have an opportunity to learn a variety of communication skills such as media relations, social media communication, paper editing, blogging, web publishing, and dissemination of publications and scholarly work.
  • Interns will work on a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Researching and identifying relevant media targets and updating media lists to reflect editorial staff and beat changes.
  • Helping to draft social media language and content, especially for Twitter.
  • Copy editing blog posts, reports, etc.
  • Monitoring print and broadcast media for coverage that includes mention of projects and experts.
  • Supporting work to promote Governance Studies research, experts, events, and news.
  • Assisting with media relations outreach activities, as appropriate.
  • Assisting with layout and design of research papers, as appropriate.
  • Drafting blog posts.
  • Staffing and organizing public events, as needed.
