Description

  • You will be part of the multi-disciplinary Thermal Energy team and work with experienced seismic researchers in SCR. Exploration for geothermal resources requires identifying zones of high temperature within the subsurface. In this internship you will conduct a study into the dependency of seismic velocities to the temperature variations in and around geothermal resources. You will contribute to the theory of rock physics and the dependence of seismic wave propagation on temperature. You will also write modelling software to demonstrate the impact of temperature on seismic wave propagation. 
  • Candidates should have a good understanding of the theory of seismic wave propagation and may possibly have already written seismic modelling code. They should enjoy new challenges and have good communication skills. 

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of the theory of seismic wave propagation and rock physics
  • Proficient in programming languages (e.g.: Matlab, Python, C++ or other)
  • May have written seismic modelling code already
  • Good communication skills
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Qualification:
  • A BSc in physical science or mathematics and studying towards a Masters or PhD involving seismic or other wave propagation.
