The main role of a High School Patient Care Intern is to complete patient care activities and provide clerical support as delegated by the RN.
What are the educational requirements for this internship?
Candidates must be current high school students (rising seniors/seniors) who have completed one year of Health Tech education or are participants of another Workforce Development identified program. A work permit is required for students under the age of 18.
Is previous experience necessary for this position?
No, less than one year of entry-level experience is acceptable for this internship.
What types of tasks will I be responsible for as an intern?
Interns will be responsible for tasks such as hospitality rounds, patient companionship, setting up AM care, restocking supplies, assisting unit secretaries, cleaning equipment, and performing other supportive duties as assigned.
What skills are necessary for this internship?
Required skills include effective communication, organization, flexibility, a patient-focused approach, a positive attitude, basic computer data entry skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
Are there any physical demands associated with this position?
Yes, the position involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying, often up to 50 lbs, along with other physical activities such as pushing, pulling, kneeling, and reaching.
