Description

  • Advanced Energy is currently seeking Firmware/Software Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites.  Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy’s sites in Colorado, Minnesota, New York, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions.  Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for summer and school-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, San Jose State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or Stanford University. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Required:
  • Programming ability in high level languages such as Python, HDL, C, C++, and/or assembly languages in embedded environment
  • Working knowledge of microcontrollers, field-programmable gate arrays, hardware circuit theory, and/or software development tools
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work in a lab environment debugging firmware, software, or embedded systems, and evaluating product spec compliance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
  • Preferred:
  • Ability to work with embedded systems, hardware, and read schematics
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethercat, Fieldbus, SPI, and I2C
  • Education:
  • Candidates working towards a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards an Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering (BSCE), Computer Science (BSCS) degree or equivalent
  • Candidates working towards MS or PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Preference will be given to those with Embedded Systems and/or Controls focus. Other fields will be considered based on applicability
  • GPA > 3.25
