Requirements

  • 2+ years of educational or equivalent experience in health or public health courses.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Tasks could include things like the following:
  • Assist Community Impact staff implementing health equity priority programs, American Heart Association events, Simple Cooking with Heart Demos, Hands-Only CPR training, Heart Healthy Presentations, clinical programs, and Mercado por tu Corazon.
  • Assist with Community Impact Coalition meetings and hosting events potentially for partner coalitions.
  • Interns will support PSE (Policy, Systems and Environmental Changes) events in the San Antonio Market.
  • Interns will be asked to complete tasks such as but not limited to:
  • Mercado por tu Corazon support – educating and aiding shoppers at American Heart Association mobile markets
  • Health fair attendance - distributing material and one on one education
  • Health presentations -small to large groups as they gain experience
  • Material and resource development such as PPT's and brochures
  • Special event support - preparing supplies, recruiting and managing volunteers, etc.
  • Program implementation - recruiting and training program sites, follow up on participants, etc.
  • Resource inventory - ordering supplies, organizing, etc.
  • Customer response - answering phones, welcoming to building, responding to requests
  • Intern will assist Community Impact staff in other ways identified as needed.
