Requirements

  • Qualifications We Require:
  • You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position.
  • Qualifications We Desire:
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Teaching or presentation experience
  • Biological laboratory research experience
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory maintenance
  • Cultivation of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and/or algae
  • Nucelic acid isolation
  • Molecular cloning and transformation
  • PCR-based assays
  • Growth characterization
  • Running oxidative reactions with lignin and waste plastics
  • Performing enzyme assays
  • Analysis and summarization of experimental data
  • Throughout this internship, you will gain valuable hands-on laboratory experience. Successful interns are expected to gain increasing levels of independence and responsibility, and demonstrate a commitment to operating in, and contributing to, a safe operating environment.
