  • This role requires the intern to be in/around San Jose, CA, and work out of our office there. This role requires the intern to work closely with the FSS team, both FSE and SE, and help in maintaining the Spirent Demo Cloud (SDC) and Spirent Experience Lab (SEL) that the FSS team owns and manages. In working with FSE/SE on the team, the intern will experience what it takes to provide pre-sales and post-sales support to one of the most demanding customer bases located in Northern California. These sales labs that the intern will help administer, manage, and evolve, currently service more than 50 SE/FSE in the Americas. That footprint is growing as we continue collaborating with our APAC and EMEA teams. The health and on-time of the labs are 100% mission-critical as they enable demo and POC/evals to a majority of sales engagements.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field from an accredited university.
  • Basic understanding of wireless telecommunication and computer networking protocols.
  • Basic understanding of one or more scripting languages, preferably Python.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Virtualization and cloud computing.

Responsibilities

  • Test and Measurement Equipment Operation: Gain hands-on experience on one or more of Spirent products that enable testing of cutting-edge technologies like 800G High Speed Ethernet, 5G RAN, and Core, O-RAN, Cybersecurity, Wi-Fi 7 and perform protocol, functional, and performance testing on DUT/SUT. Assist in debugging customer issues using tools like Wireshark, Spectrum Analyzers, and Signal Generators.
  • Test Planning and Execution: Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Field Service Engineers to understand the testing requirements of customers and contribute to the development of test methodologies and test plans for the sales labs. Create demonstratable test cases around Landslide, Spirent TestCenter, CyberFlood, 8100 5G, Octobox, and Vertex. Create physical and virtual DUT configurations that will be integrated into the training and demonstrations that FSS teams provide to Spirent’s customers.
  • Automation Scripting: Contribute to the development and maintenance of automation scripts to streamline testing processes using tools like Python, PowerShell, Git, Terraform.
  • Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: Perform software and firmware upgrades on Spirent products in the sales labs.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with cross-functional, including engineering, product marketing, sales, and product support to achieve assigned project goals. Attend team meetings and actively contribute to discussions and technical forums.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of testbed setups, configurations, and test results. Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures. Assist with Spirent sales labs equipment inventory and audits and update asset trackers. Present weekly status update reports. Prepare an internship summary report and presentation and present it to the management.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Contribute ideas and solutions to improve testing processes and methodologies. Participate in bug bash, and brainstorming sessions to address engineering challenges.
