Requirements

  • Education & Experience:
  • Working toward a 4-year college degree or Graduate student in the field of electrical/chemical/mechanical engineering or physics
  • Skills:
  • Understanding of material properties and experimental techniques
  • Basic data analysis
  • Presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the introduction of a new laser product.
  • Work under the guidance of senior engineers to understand all the components that go into a coherent transceiver.
  • Review vendor specifications for electro-optical components such as drivers, TIAs, and silicon photonics PICs.
  • Carry out process experiments, for example to establish new epoxies and curing profiles.
  • Work with mechanical engineers to design and procure test fixtures.
  • Prepare informal presentations for the team weekly sync-up meeting.
  • Laser Related:
  • Attend remote meetings with the laser chip design team in Sweden.
  • Read theory on wavelength locking techniques.
  • Go through the existing laser calibration routine and look for inefficiencies.
  • Run calibration routines on early samples for a new laser product.
  • Silicon Photonics Related:
  • Evaluate improvements in coupling efficiency depending on the refractive index of adhesives.
  • Run experiments and perform statistical analysis of results.
  • Based on the above results, develop a hypothesis on the relationship between adhesive properties and the coupling efficiency.
  • Present results to the R&D team.
