Responsibilities

  • Energy | Asset Management
  • The Energy Asset Management team is responsible for preparing data for analytical and operational uses across all of energy products. The team builds and maintains data pipelines that consolidate data from different systems into a structured format that can be consumed by the team to build reports, dashboards and drive decisions.
  • Deploy data pipelines that transforms data into structure output for analytics in a robust, efficient and scalable framework
  • Build tools and frameworks to help users summarize and explore the data
  • Automate reporting and data quality checks
  • Provide ongoing support for deployed pipelines
  • Energy | Service Transformation & Analytics
  • The Energy Services Transformation & Analytics team is embedded in daily operations, supporting both near-term execution and long-term planning. Team members are expected to partner closely with the business to analyze technical data, provide recommendations, and lead cross-functional decision-making and implementation of the recommendations.
  • Perform Advanced SQL queries on massive datasets to create analytics that provide insight to drive action using various SQL languages and Spark distributed infrastructure
  • Create and maintain analytics dashboards (using Tableau, PowerBi and similar tools)
  • Create and maintain data ELT pipelines using Python and Airflow scheduling
  • Use Git and Jira for workflow tracking
  • Energy | Service Engineering Data Analytics and Infrastructure, Query Optimization
  • The Tesla Energy Service Engineering Data Analytics and Infrastructure team is responsible for leveraging the vast amount of data from the Energy fleet to ensure the best customer experience and fleet availability across the entire Tesla Energy portfolio; Industrial, Residential, Supercharger, and Solar. In this internship you will have a mandate to identify and improve the underlying algorithms and infrastructure supporting the entire Energy organization.
  • Optimize and undertake advanced SQL queries on massive datasets to create analytics that provide insight to drive action using various SQL languages and Spark distributed infrastructure
  • Create and maintain analytics dashboards (using Tableau and similar tools)
  • Create and maintain data ELT pipelines using Airflow scheduling

  • Energy | Product Engineer
  • Tesla Energy Products Service Engineering and Fleet Analytic team utilize fleet data and engineering fundamentals to monitor product performance, and root cause design, process, or firmware failures in our fleet of renewable energy hardware.
  • The person in this role would play a central role in ensuring we have the highest quality products for our customers. This person will work with a cross-functional team of engineers to define and track product KPIs, troubleshoot and diagnose device issues, deploy necessary corrective actions ranging from firmware changes, hardware design changes, manufacturing process or installation process changes, etc.

What is the expected duration of the internship?

The internship is expected to start around August 2024 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e., through December 2024) or into Spring 2025 if available. A minimum of 12 weeks of full-time, on-site work is required.

Are there any working hour requirements for this internship?

Yes, interns are required to work 40 hours per week on-site. International students should consult their school regarding their work authorization (CPT) and ability to work full-time.

What teams might applicants be reviewed by?

Applicants may be reviewed by one or more of the following teams: Energy Asset Management, Energy Service Transformation & Analytics, Energy Service Engineering Data Analytics and Infrastructure, and Energy Product Engineer.

What type of technical skills are required for this internship?

Applicants should have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience, along with strong knowledge of SQL and Python. Experience in building data pipelines using Airflow, working knowledge of Spark, and experience with Git or other source control software are also required. Scala experience is a plus.

Interns will be responsible for deploying data pipelines for analytics, building tools to explore data, automating reporting and data quality checks, performing advanced SQL queries, creating and maintaining analytics dashboards, and supporting deployed pipelines, among other duties.
