  • Compliance and Systems Testing:
  • The intern will support two important functions for Tesla’s Energy Compliance teams: First, the development of solar PV and energy storage system (ESS) products through system level testing for performance and compliance verification. Tests performed at Tesla’s laboratories and at dedicated outdoor installations are primarily focused on ESS and PV system products as well as their interaction in system configurations. This testing focuses on validating performance as well as meeting industry standard requirements for product certification. Second, the intern will support a team focused on improving electrical and fire codes and standards which govern solar and energy storage products. This is a complimentary activity that incorporates results and findings from the testing function to better inform the code and standards requirements. This work requires hands-on support of ESS and solar array testing, addressing electrical, thermal, and functional performance, logistics support for new or changing test arrays and ESS configurations
  • Compliance Engineering/Product Safety and Grid Interoperability:
  • Regulatory product compliance is a critical business function and a rapidly expanding sector. Regulatory complexity is increasing and continuously evolving with many local, national and international codes, standards and regulations (CSRs). Intern will support test and automation activities by designing, building and operating test fixtures. Intern will test and interface with high power high energy storage systems and subsystems. Intern will be able to contribute to the product construction reviews, execute product safety and grid interoperability testing, debug, data analysis, documentation, presenting and communicating results to the nationally recognized testing laboratories (NRTL's). The ideal candidate will have understanding of high voltage, electrical principles and reading/generating electrical wiring diagram, track adequacy and success of test suites against requirements, design, build, and utilize test equipment

Mission & Purpose

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy through increasingly affordable electric vehicles in addition to renewable energy generation and storage. California-based Tesla is committed to having the best-in-class in safety, performance, and reliability in all Tesla cars. There are currently over 275,000 Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles on the road worldwide. To achieve a sustainable energy future, Tesla also created infinitely scalable energy products: Powerwall, Powerpack and Solar Roof. As the world’s only vertically integrated energy company, Tesla continues to innovate, scale and reduce the costs of commercial and grid-scale systems, with the goal of ultimately getting us to 100% renewable energy grids.
