Requirements

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
  • An official transcript may be required upon request.
  • Preferred majors include: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Technical Theater.
  • Preferred coursework completed: Electronics Theory.
  • Experience in electronics theory, Arduino, basic circuit mock-up, and consistent documentation required.
  • Experience in basic programming (C, Python, JS, etc.), electrical schematic and PCB layout, Solidworks, and Fusion360 preferred.
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.
  • Consistent attendance.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than August 2025.
  • Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes of new technologies and how to use them in our parks.
  • Writes scope of work documents to be sent to vendors for contract work.
  • Mocks up interactive experiences with in-house developed technologies for potential new park side offerings.
  • Attends weekly collaboration meetings to help bridge the gap between creativity and engineering.
  • Participates in hands-on exposure with low voltage electrical and mechanical systems, including potential system and component designs.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Universal Creative is the research and development group responsible for designing rides and attractions for Universal Parks & Resorts theme parks. It is Universal's equivalent of Walt Disney Imagineering. From 1968 until 1997, Universal Creative was known as MCA Planning and Development.
