  • Required:
  • Currently attending a credited Institution working on a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience using solid modeling tools (Solidworks, Creo, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced design/manufacturing techniques
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Experience in product design for industrial applications
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and statistical analysis
  • Experience with assembly techniques including ultrasonic welding, insert molding, chip on board (COB), surface mount technology (SMT) and epoxy encapsulation

Responsibilities

  • Performs qualification tests to ensure conformance to specifications, and evaluating designs through virtual, stress, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
  • Resolves part and process issues by working with production engineering, manufacturing department, and suppliers.
  • Works with global suppliers on qualifying mechanical parts made from a variety of processes including injection molding, machining, metal-forming, and die -casting.
  • Develop concepts, then design and document components and assemblies following efficient and reliable departmental processes for manufacturing.
  • Design and acquire prototype parts for internal evaluation.
  • Design, source and build fixtures to aid in product development and technology research.
  • Translate product specifications and requirements into effective product designs.
  • Assist in the development and execution of product test plans.
  • Integrate design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) processes to reduce product cost.
  • Manage product documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), design verification reports, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and process and design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs)
  • Adhere to compliance regulations established by various agencies (CE, UL, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
