Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or other life-science related field with interest in global health.
  • Experience with isothermal nucleic acid amplification, lateral flow assay, sample preparation and purification.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in CRISPR-Cas system would be a plus.
  • Experience working in a BSL2 laboratory and accustomed to adhering to biological safety practices.
  • Skilled in experimental execution, with robust and practical laboratory skills, and excited about performing hands-on scientific work.
  • Demonstrated capacity to utilize and maintain a wide array of laboratory instrumentation and systems.
  • Experience in assay validation or clinical evaluations.
  • Highly proactive and self-directed in identifying personal knowledge and/or skill gaps, and adept at acquiring the technical background needed to fill those gaps.
  • Willingness to always question results, including their own.
  • Strong scientific integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments to assess the feasibility of diagnostic concepts and NAAT assay strategies, with input from mentors, team peers, project leads, and directors.
  • Assist in the design of point of care diagnostic devices. Technologies include but are not limited to sample preparation methodologies, isothermal NAAT, and lateral flow immunochromatographic assays.
  • Conduct performance verification and validation of integrated diagnostic platforms using contrived and clinical samples.
  • Record and communicate results to the team and other members of the organization.
  • Consistently maintain a safe working environment with good housekeeping practices.
