Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or PhD in electrical engineering, optical engineering, applied physics, or a related field.
  • A comprehensive background understanding of fiber-optic communication system/sub-system technologies in building coherent optical transmission links.
  • Knowledge of coherent optical detection technology, including integrated photonics, cDSP algorithm, advanced modulation formats (QAM/PAM), and common management interface standard (CMIS).
  • Hands-on experience in coherent optics test methodology and equipment.
  • Experience in optical system verification and optical line system performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in the programming/automation language, i.e Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must work well in a collaborative technical environment.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal, are required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in the field of optics, photonics, electrical, or related engineering degree.
  • Experience in testing/qualifying coherent optical transceivers, including OSNR measurements, impairment testing, and measurement of other optical parameters.
  • Hands-on experience with optoelectronic components, analog amplifiers, DSP ASIC, and microcontrollers.
  • Prior experience with Juniper OS (JUNOS), command line interface, is a plus.
  • Prior experience in building optical transmission links and automation.

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for building an IP-over-DWDM transmission system and performing 800GbE/400GbE transmission, leveraging Juniper’s next-generation packet-optical products. This includes experimental investigation of high-speed (e.g. 400Gb/s and beyond) optical transmission, theoretical simulation/analysis, and building test-automation tools.
  • Building (developing & testing) optical transmission test link using Juniper router and 800G/400G coherent optical modules, and open line system.
  • Automating test procedures and developing line-system monitoring toolkits.
  • Perform numerical simulations on a system level, as well as interpret and analyze the simulation results.
  • Performance analysis of 800G/400G coherent optical signal transmission

We strive to deliver a simplified experience for those who run networks and those who depend on them.
