Requirements

  • Essential:
  • Currently be enrolled on an undergraduate degree course
  • Be required or have requested to take a placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Demonstrate an understanding of electrical / electronic circuits
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, innovative, logical approach to problem solving, organised, reliable and collaborative
  • Able to communicate to both a technical and non-technical audience
  • Desirable:
  • Shows an interest in the world outside of engineering
  • Evidence of practical experience through University labs

Responsibilities

  • As an industrial placement electronic engineer within the MPS group, your role will entail designing power converters and their corresponding control systems. Leveraging the knowledge acquired during your university studies, you'll actively contribute to shaping the future of the ISIS neutron and muon source. Equipped with the necessary resources, you'll assume project ownership and drive its progress. Skill enhancement will be achieved through a blend of on-the-job learning and formal training, as opportunities arise. Moreover, you'll have chances to gain insights into the functioning of the ISIS accelerator and to familiarize yourself with the distinctive power supplies utilized within ISIS.
  • Your daily responsibilities will encompass tasks like project planning, formulating specifications and requirements, designing and simulating power converters, constructing and testing power and control electronics, and analyzing and documenting test results. Demonstrating strong performance could potentially lead to sponsorship and consideration for a graduate placement, contingent upon availability within the group.
