What qualifications do I need to apply for the MSc Midwifery program?
You must be a Registered Adult Nurse to be eligible for the MSc Midwifery (pre-registration) program.
How is the MSc Midwifery program funded?
The program is funded by NHS England, which covers salary (up to AfC mid-point band-5), tuition fees, and placement tariff.
Will I be eligible to register as a midwife after completing the program?
Yes, upon successful completion of the program and meeting the NMC Standards for Proficiency for Midwives, you will be eligible for registration on the midwifery section of the NMC register.
How is the MSc Midwifery program structured?
The program is structured with 50% theory and 50% practice-based learning, with a blend of face-to-face teaching, project-based work, case studies, independent study, and online resources.
Where will the theory component be delivered?
The majority of the theory component (80%) will be delivered online as distance learning, with nine weeks of face-to-face teaching on campus at Sheffield Hallam University over the two years.
What types of clinical placements are included in the program?
Clinical placements will include community, antenatal and postnatal experiences, as well as opportunities in labour ward and birth centres within the employing NHS Trust Maternity Unit.
