Requirements

  • Currently Enrolled in a bachelor’s program with a major in engineering or related field.
  • Degree(s) Preferred: Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Visio) software
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Able to work independently, take initiative, and drive for results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work 10 weeks during the summer break and potentially 20 hours +/- during the school year.
  • Knowledge of Lean tools and principles such as Kaizen, 5S, Poka-Yoke, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Hands-on support for mechanical changes, performing time studies.

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with distribution staff to understand the daily challenges on the distribution floor.
  • Performing time studies, calculate cycle time, and develop basic manufacturing flow and capacity plans.
  • Assisting the Industrial Engineer in evaluating the workflow and sequence of operations to drive improvements in processes in manufacturing systems through VSM.
  • Assisting Industrial Engineer with Lean principles implementation (workflow, standard work, Kanban, VSM, Poka-Yoke, and 5S)
  • Assisting Industrial Engineer in executing process improvement projects, improving process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Assisting the Industrial Engineer in creating standard work documents (i.e., work instructions, visual aids, procedures) for the current and new direct and indirect operations to standardize processes across operations and shifts.
  • Supporting facility layout and design, equipment relocation, and layout optimization projects.
  • Presentation/Report on an improvement project at the end of the internship.
  • Other duties as assigned.
