Requirements

  • Current Enrollment: Must be a current Master’s or PhD student in Automotive Systems Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Project Experience: Should have experience with requirements decomposition and writing requirements from school projects or similar academic activities. A systems approach to problem-solving is essential.
  • Software Proficiency: A strong interest and basic proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink are required. Prior experience with these tools in academic projects is highly desirable.
  • Automotive Passion: An expressed interest in the automotive industry, particularly in electric vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions.
  • Extracurricular Engagement: Experience in BAJA, Formula SAE (FSAE), or similar projects is a plus, demonstrating practical experience in automotive design and engineering.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and technologies.
  • Team Collaboration: Must be a good team player with excellent communication skills, ready to contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support Vehicle Simulation Efforts: Assist in creating and maintaining vehicle models using MATLAB Simulink to analyze interactions between subsystems and components. This role provides a hands-on opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world engineering challenges.
  • Contribute to Requirements Writing: Engage in the process of writing detailed product requirements by decomposing complex systems into manageable components. This includes understanding customer needs, market demands, and technical constraints.
  • Assist in Trade-Off Studies: Support other engineering groups in conducting trade-off studies to find optimal balances among performance, safety, and durability considerations. This will involve learning to make decisions that enhance product specifications and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform Benchmark Studies: Participate in research and analysis efforts to benchmark competitor vehicles and study market trends. This involves gathering and analyzing data to support the team in making informed specification adjustments.
