Placement Program



  • You will be responsible for advancing our Supplier Quality performance and Manufacturing Quality Assurance capabilities at Buhler Optical Sorting through project work to drive 8D RCA Response and Design Assurance as well as assisting Buhler - London to improve its Quality function coverage of these processes.
  • This role is primarily based on site at our London Docklands with some UK travel possibly required (<5%)


  • Required qualifications:
  • This role is aimed at current undergraduates or recent postgraduates to increase their industrial experience.
  • You will ideally be studying (or have recently completed) a scientific, engineering or technical discipline at BSc, BEng, HNC/ ONC or BTEC equivalent.
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • High standard of secondary / A-Level education
  • Confident communicator and proactive in approach
  • Basic spreadsheeting is a prerequisite.
  • Fluency in English language
  • Previous use of MS Excel to an intermediate level is preferred.
  • Experience of handling statistical data desirable.

Area of Responsibilities



  • Daily Supplier Quality performance management – part non-conformance management, containment activity, validation of RCA response and monitoring of supplier performance
  • Improving RCA responsiveness through increased governance, communication and participation via 8D RCA investigations to Customer Complaints and Buhler manufacturing yield issues
  • Work closely with the other engineering teams to improve overall manufacturing systems with an emphasis on test and inspection systems and data collection
  • Improving the use of Quality feedback into future designs using the Buhler NPI / M2M processes – creating Standard Work and templates where necessary
  • Introducing Standard Work into Quality Control processes such as Assembly and Test Quality Checksheets and Final Audit Checks
  • Monitoring of optical sorter digital test results and the tested capability of our optical sorters (SPC / Cpk)
  • Project(s) to increase yield with possible application of Six Sigma / DMAIC
