  • This role will help the School of Mathematics to communicate its excellent mathematical research with its broad applications in areas such as healthcare, AI and the climate crisis. The post holder will support the creation of web content, blogs, and social media to communicate the impact and applications our research has to a variety of audiences, including the general public.


  • A current 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year undergraduate University of Edinburgh student
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • An interest in learning more about mathematics research and its applications
  • Knowledge of digital media including social media
  • Aptitude for project planning and working to timescales

Area of Responsibilities

Research & Development


  • Develop external-facing web content for the School’s main website, showcasing the School’s research applications and impact in core strategic areas. Examples include climate and sustainability, data and AI, and healthcare (40%)
  • Design and create digital content such as social media campaigns and digital screen content, to summarise research and its applications (30%)
  • Research examples of best practice for research communications from other HE providers (10%)
  • Suggest processes to continue communication of research after the end of the internship (10%)
  • Gather or create resources to support academic researchers to best communicate their research to non-specialist audiences (10%)
