What is the pay range for the Seaborg Institute Nuclear Science and Security Graduate Intern position?
The pay range for this position is $6,620 to $8,040 monthly, depending on the step placement based on your most recent completed academic year.
What educational qualifications are required to apply for the internship?
Applicants must be continuing college or university students in good standing pursuing a graduate degree or must have completed their bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics, chemistry, geology and geochemistry, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field.
What kind of research will the interns be involved in?
Interns will engage in practical research and provide support to projects in areas such as actinide and materials science, radiochemistry, isotopic analysis, radiation detection, nuclear engineering, or nuclear forensics.
Is a security clearance required for this position?
No security clearance is required; however, if the assignment exceeds 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, a Personal Identity Verification process will be necessary.
Are there any restrictions for applicants based on nationality?
Yes, due to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), citizens of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea without dual US citizenship or legal permanent residency are generally prohibited from accessing specific non-public areas of national security or nuclear weapons facilities.
What is the required GPA to be considered for the internship?
A GPA of 3.0 or above is desired.
Will interns be expected to present their research findings?
Yes, interns will be required to present their work through presentations and/or poster sessions as part of their responsibilities.
What software skills are necessary for the internship?
Interns should have experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to operate a personal computer to translate and report scientific data.
Will there be any drug testing prior to employment?
Yes, external applicants selected for this position must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for the use of marijuana.
