The primary role of a Senior Nurse Intern is to perform general patient care including hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and continuous observation under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
What kind of skills will I learn and perform as a Senior Nurse Intern?
As a Senior Nurse Intern, you will perform routine treatments and interventions that are consistent with your educational level and skills. You may also perform advanced skills like nasogastric tube irrigation, wound irrigation, complex dressing changes, and tracheostomy care after achieving demonstrated competencies.
Are there any specific patient care responsibilities I will have?
Yes, you will assist patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs, provide increased or continuous visual observation for certain patient populations, and maintain a safe and clean environment for all patients.
What are the educational requirements for this position?
You must be enrolled in an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program and preparing to enter the final two semesters or quarters of the applicable nursing program, or you should have completed a nursing program but not hold a current Alabama license.
Is there any experience required for this position?
No prior experience is required for the Senior Nurse Intern position.
What certifications do I need to maintain for this role?
You must maintain current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
Will I have responsibilities related to patient transport?
Yes, you will be responsible for transporting patients through the admission and discharge process and may also transport patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
How will I communicate patient information to other team members?
You will communicate appropriate information regarding the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse and other members of the healthcare team during handoff reports and purposeful rounding.
Is attendance important for this role?
Yes, maintaining reasonably regular and punctual attendance is expected and aligned with Orlando Health policies and standards.
