Responsibilities

  • Performs general patient care including hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and continuous observation under the guidance, mentoring, and oversight of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
  • Performs advanced skills after achieving demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.
  • Performs increased or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients as assigned and utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist during staff changes or transfer of care for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Ensures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and conducts purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Also transports Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the patient population on the assigned unit.
  • Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
  • Interprets necessary information to identify each patient’s age-specific requirements.
