Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.
  • Must be motivated and have a strong desire to learn engineering skills related to structural and civil projects.
  • Demonstrated interest in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program.
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and a knowledge of reading drawings.
  • Completed basic foundational courses including: Intro to Engineering, AutoCAD, Engineering Drafting course, and Mechanics/Statics.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or activity participate in local professional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities.
  • Perform basic calculations.
  • Perform routine Engineering functions.
  • Prepare sketches and drawings including using various types of CADD design software.
  • Assist with quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assist with field work, including bridge inspection.
  • Assisting in preparing contract documents.
  • Document research and Field investigation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required as required by business needs.
