What is the main purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
The main purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while providing medical nutrition therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a registered dietitian.
What kind of educational background is required to apply for this position?
Candidates must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or be currently enrolled in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
What kinds of tasks will the dietetic intern be responsible for?
The dietetic intern will conduct nutrition interviews, calculate diet prescriptions, provide nutrition counseling, collect data for comprehensive assessments, assist in developing and implementing nutrition care plans, review monthly nutrition data, write progress notes, create educational projects, and attend interdisciplinary team meetings.
Who supervises the dietetic intern during their placement?
The dietetic intern will be closely monitored and supervised by a Registered Dietitian as assigned by the Clinical Manager based on an agreed education plan.
Are there any specific restrictions regarding relationships with patients?
Yes, the intern cannot work under the supervision of a family member or care for a patient who is a family member. If a family member is a patient at the intern's facility, they will be scheduled to work on days the patient is not in the facility or assigned to another patient.
What physical demands and working conditions should interns expect?
Interns should expect desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients and facility staff, travel between assigned facilities, and exposure to the typical health care facility environment, which includes air temperature control and moderate noise levels. They may also be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
What qualities are preferred in a candidate for this internship?
Candidates should exhibit outstanding customer service skills to all external and internal customers and have a strong desire to deliver superior care to patients while embracing Fresenius' mission and values.
Will there be any travel involved in this position?
Yes, the position requires travel between assigned facilities and may also involve travel to regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings as needed.
What kind of projects might an intern create during their placement?
An intern may create nutrition-related projects such as bulletin boards, patient/staff education handouts, games, or lobby activities.
Is there a requirement regarding the intern's compliance with policies and regulations?
Yes, the intern is expected to adhere to FMCNA's Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements throughout their placement.
