What is the purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
The purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while providing medical nutrition therapy to patients under the supervision of a registered dietitian.
Who can apply for this internship?
This internship is open to individuals who are currently enrolled in a Dietetic Internship or a university-based Coordinated Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
What types of tasks will I be responsible for as an intern?
As an intern, you will conduct nutrition interviews with patients, calculate diet prescription recommendations, provide nutrition counseling, collect data for assessments, assist with nutrition plans, and create nutrition-related educational materials, among other duties.
What kind of supervision will I receive during the internship?
The internship includes direct supervision by a Registered Dietitian, and all assignments will be closely monitored by the Clinical Manager based on an agreed education plan.
Are there any physical demands associated with this position?
Yes, the position involves desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients and staff, and may require travel between assigned facilities. You may also be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials typical of a health care setting.
What educational qualifications do I need to have to apply for this internship?
Candidates must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or must be currently enrolled in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
Is there a customer service expectation for this role?
Yes, there is an expectation for outstanding customer service to both external and internal customers, and a desire to deliver superior care to patients in alignment with Fresenius' mission and values.
Can I care for family members while interning at FMCNA?
No, interns cannot care for patients who are family members. If a family member is a patient at the facility, the intern will be assigned to work on days the patient is not present or to another patient entirely.
Will I have opportunities to participate in team meetings?
Yes, interns are expected to attend interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute as appropriate, particularly in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement discussions.
Are there additional duties that I may be assigned during my internship?
Yes, interns may be assigned additional duties as needed beyond the outlined responsibilities.
