The primary role of a Dietetic Intern is to learn and apply dietetic principles under the direct guidance of a Registered Dietitian, which includes conducting nutrition interviews, calculating diet prescriptions, providing nutrition counseling, and assisting in developing and implementing nutrition plans of care.
What level of education is required for this position?
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or current enrollment in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics is required.
Will the intern be working independently?
No, the intern will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Dietitian and will receive guidance on their assignments based on an agreed education plan.
What kind of activities may the intern engage in during the placement?
The intern may engage in activities such as conducting nutrition interviews, providing nutrition counseling, collecting data for assessments, reviewing nutrition data with patients, and creating nutrition-related projects for patients or staff.
Are there any restrictions regarding patient relationships?
Yes, the intern cannot work under the supervision of a family member or care for a patient who is a family member. If a family member is a patient in the facility, the intern will be scheduled on days when the patient is not present or assigned to another patient.
What are the physical demands of the job?
The physical demands include desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients and facility staff, travel between assigned facilities, and exposure to a healthcare environment with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels.

Is travel a requirement for this role?
