What is the purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
The purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while providing medical nutrition therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a registered dietitian, in compliance with regulations and FMCNA policies.
Who qualifies as a dietetic intern in this placement?
A dietetic intern is an individual who is currently enrolled in a Dietetic Internship or in a university-based Coordinated Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
What kind of activities can a dietetic intern expect to be involved in?
A dietetic intern can expect to conduct nutrition interviews, calculate diet prescriptions, provide nutrition counseling, assist in developing and implementing nutrition care plans, collect data for assessments, create nutrition-related projects, and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
What are the working conditions and physical demands for this role?
The working conditions include desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients and healthcare staff, and travel between assigned facilities. The environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with air temperature control and moderate noise levels, while being aware of potential exposure to infectious materials.
What educational qualifications are required for this position?
Candidates must have either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or be currently enrolled in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
What skills or experience are preferred for applicants?
Applicants should demonstrate outstanding customer service skills and possess a desire to deliver superior care to patients, in alignment with Fresenius' mission and values.
Are there any restrictions on who the intern can supervise or care for?
Yes, the intern cannot work under the supervision of a family member and cannot care for a family member who is a patient at the facility. If a family member is a patient, the intern will be scheduled to work on days that the patient is not in the facility or assigned to care for another patient.
How are intern assignments supervised?
The Clinical Manager assigns and closely monitors all intern assignments, with direct supervision provided by a Registered Dietitian based on an agreed education plan.
Will the intern have to perform any additional duties?
Yes, the intern may be required to perform additional duties as assigned by their supervisor.
