Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in college degree program directly related to the position or have recently graduated within the quarter/semester immediately preceding the start date.
  • Major area of study: Environmental Science, Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical), or Geology.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, public relations, Agency policies and procedures, and permits as applicable.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Skills in computers (spreadsheets, word processing and database work, geographic information systems).
  • Selected candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Note: This position may involve working longer than 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of Ohio's first comprehensive organics management plan.
  • Receive training from technical staff on scrap tire management and educational tools.
  • Provide education and outreach to businesses generating scrap tires for the proper management of scrap tires to reduce theft and open dumping.
  • Identify businesses for assigned areas and perform sight visits to share resources and information with business representatives.
  • Support the division's duties and receive training in aspects of office and field activities involved in the solid waste and construction and demolition debris programs.
  • Perform field work, including explosive gas sampling and ground water sampling at landfills, beneficial use and compost site observations, and facility construction oversight.
  • Assist division staff with the review of explosive gas plans and other landfill reports.
  • Prepare reports and other technical documents.
  • Assist with the updating of files and tabulating information needed for administrative reports requested by central office, outside agencies or citizens.
