Requirements

  • Enrolled or recently completed a graduate program in public health, biostatistics, or other related field
  • Being able to work (at a beginner or intermediate level) in at least one language ideally SQL, R, or Python in a windows environment.
  • Some graduate coursework in statistics, data analysis, or econometrics.
  • Rudimentary understanding of health insurance.
  • NICE TO HAVE: Experience working with individual level data and demographics.
  • NICE TO HAVE: Experience with the Tableau platform.

Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of the intern on the Health Analytics team would be (with supervision and guidance) constructing SQL queries and analysis code for some of our requests. This would expose them to the normal work of a data team where a request is scoped, code is written, results are QAed, and then insights are crafted for our MetroPlus colleagues. Any number of our requests could be turned into an internship project or if the intern is interested they can choose an internal Health Analytics project that usually follows the same roadmap.
  • Other activities the intern can perform include QAing code/reports, assist in constructing Tableau dashboards, or help building visualizations for requests in R and/or Python.
