Requirements

  • A passion for sustainability with the desire to support the charity sector in reducing their environmental impact.
  • Desire to learn and develop knowledge and understanding of sustainability and broader ESG topics.
  • Able to focus on detail and happy to explore a problem or activity, gathering information to understand in fully.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills. Be able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, and work to deadlines.
  • Analytical ability to translate report findings into actionable plans.
  • Passionate about Cancer Research UK’s mission to beat cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration: work with the CRUK Sustainability and ESG team and our external consultancy, as well as both internal and external stakeholders to better understand the emissions from our operations. Work with external organisations, as appropriate, to understand and share best practice.
  • Project management: Support the ESG team to implement emissions reduction actions against our 6 focus areas; research approach and laboratories, fundraising events, retail shop operations, electricity and travel, procurement, investments and pensions.
  • Translate report findings into tips/guidance or process changes by visiting retail shops, our National Distribution Centre and Regional Distribution centres (RDCs) to understand what efficiencies could work.
  • Work with internal comms to define comms plan across stores, NDCs and RDCs.

Application Process

  • Stage 1: Online application with SJT
  • Complete an online application form – you’ll be asked to answer a motivational competency question and upload your CV.
  • Once the roles are closed, you will then be invited to complete our situational judgment test. The test poses real life scenarios that a CRUK intern might be met with in their day to day role and asks how you would tackle that scenario. This is un-timed and multiple choice. Please let us know if you think you might require adjustments for this assessment.
  • In our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, we operate an anonymised shortlisting process. Please therefore ensure that you have completed the work history section of the application form in full and that you have answered all application questions, as this is the information we will be using to shortlist. CVs are required to be uploaded for all applications, as they will be collected for use later in the process.  If you experience any problems submitting an application,
  • Stage 2: Audio Submission
  • If you are successful in the previous stage, you will be asked to complete an audio submission, answering competency-based questions. The questions will be emailed to you and you will have a few days to submit a response via an audio recording (no video required).
  • Stage 3: Interviews
  • If you are successful in the previous stage, you will then be invited to a face-to-face interview at our head office with representatives from the team you are applying to.

Benefits

  • Flexible Working

We encourage a flexible working culture, including options such as home-working, reduced or flexi-hours, job shares, job-splits, compressed and core hours. We offer a high level of flexibility for the vast majority of our office-based roles, meaning that you’ll only be required to work from a specific location for 1 or 2 days a week on average.

  • Income Protection and Life Assurance

We provide all staff with free insurance policies, paying 50% of your salary if you are unable to work through illness, and up to 4 times your salary for your beneficiaries should the unthinkable happen and you die while in our employment.

  • Pension

Our Retirement Plan is worth up to 12% of salary and offers all employees a flexible way to build a pension fund, no matter which stage of your career you’re at. You’ll be given choice, control, financial benefits and valuable protection benefits. It is a defined contribution plan, which means contributions paid into the plan by you and by Cancer Research UK are invested in the funds you choose—you can have as little or as much control over this as you want.

  • Payroll giving

We offer all employees a way to support any charity of their choice tax-free through their salary. Payroll Giving is a very effective way of supporting causes close to your heart: A £10 monthly donation will only cost you £8 as a standard tax-rate payer and even less, £6 if you are higher tax-rate payer.
