Responsibilities

  • The Scientist I – Intern will participate in USP collaborative studies, other programs related to development and maintenance of quality Reference Standards, and general laboratory activities. Their work will result in obtaining analytical data used in USP robust, scientific standard setting process to enhance USP mission of helping to ensure the quality, safety, and benefit of medicines and foods.
  • How will YOU create impact here at USP?
  • During the 12-week period of the internship (on-site), the intern will complete initial orientation to USP and Reference Standards Laboratory. The successful candidate for Scientist I – Intern will have the opportunity to develop hands on experience and solidify their knowledge in various analytical laboratory technics. This will be achieved by working with lab scientists, technical training, job shadowing, and rotation. The intern may also perform other duties to support the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
  • During this period, interns may participate in other social activities within the scope of USP policies and practices.

US Pharmacopeia (USP) is an independent, scientific nonprofit organization that has focused on building trust in the supply of safe, quality medicines since 1820. We are a public health organization that uses rigorous science and public quality standards setting to protect patient safety and improve global health. Our Volunteers USP standards are in a continuous process of review and revision based upon new evidence, emerging public health concerns, and public requests for revision. Input from our volunteers, through our Council of Experts and Expert Committees and Panels, is crucial for maintaining our standards and preserving public trust. Our Governing Bodies The USP Convention helps guide our areas of impact – nearly 500 Member Organizations from around the world contribute valuable perspectives, experiences, and expertise from across healthcare and science. In addition to collaborating on critical healthcare and science matters, every five years, Convention Members adopt USP Resolutions and elect USP’s Board of Trustees and the Council of Experts who lead USP’s standards-setting Expert Committees.
