Requirements

  • Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
  • Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
  • Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
  • Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
  • Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.
  • Additional Required Qualifications:
  • The candidate should have laboratory skill commiserate with their level of education. Additional skills include the ability to set up experiments and working knowledge of data analysis software (Excel or other advanced analysis tool).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data collection and analysis
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills in the workplace or within a hobby.

Responsibilities

  • The NREL Hydrogen Safety Research and Development Program enables the use of hydrogen as a renewable energy source. A critical element of the HSR&D portfolio is the NREL Hydrogen Sensor Laboratory which supports the development and deployment of sensors for the detection of hydrogen releases. Laboratory performance testing and deployment studies within NREL Hydrogen facilities are core position requirements.
  • The Intern will be trained on using the NREL Sensor Laboratory sensor test equipment to evaluate the analytical performance of emerging sensor technologies under the supervision of senior NREL personnel. The sensor evaluations will include performance testing of sensors, data analysis, and presentation of results internally to the NREL team and externally to outside partners and collaborations.
