  • Stantec's planning and urban design studio in Arlington, Virginia is looking for a creative and motivated planning/urban design intern to be based in Arlington for the Summer of 2024. This is a paid internship position during the summer months. The preferred candidate will have a passion for urban design and planning and possess the skills necessary to communicate urban design concepts graphically.
  • Technical experience with at least one or more of these software programs is a requirement: ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or SketchUp.
  • Above all, the successful candidate will be organized, highly self-motivated, and curious, have a friendly, professional demeanor, and be able to multitask, ask questions, and learn from feedback.


  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive approach to challenges and problem-solving
  • Adaptive to new software programs and web platforms
  • Strong research skills and open to feedback
  • Experience with ArcGIS Desktop
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, InDesign, &/or Illustrator
  • Education and Experience:
  • College coursework in Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Engineering program, or similar field working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

  • Map creation and data analysis with ArcGIS
  • Graphic or rendering development
  • Report editing in Adobe InDesign
  • Assist in the development of community plans or corridor studies
  • Assist with facilitation of public outreach events
  • Assist with entry level planning &/or design duties
  • Technical writing, and summary of project-record notes/files
  • Tabular data analysis and summary reporting
