  • WMTW-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland, ME, has an opening for a summer News Intern. This 10-week paid internship provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. You will gain knowledge of the broadcast industry through exposure to all the positions within the News and Production departments. This internship will run from approximately mid-May until mid-August with some flexibility based on your availability.
  • News Interns will work alongside reporters, producers, directors, studio operators, and News managers to experience nearly all aspects of television news creation.

  • You will receive hands-on experience with positions in the newsroom, including:
  • Assignment Desk – learn how news is gathered and assigned
  • Reporting – shadow reporters on interviews and during live shots
  • Photographer – shadow photographers as they film and edit news stories and coordinate live shots
  • Digital Media – learn about the strategic use of WMTW’s website and social media platforms
  • Producing – understand the process of creating a news broadcast from scratch and learn the basics of television news writing
  • Directing – observe the technical execution of newscasts including directing live shows and audio operation
  • Studio Camera Operator – learn camera shots, angles and lighting
