Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology.
  • They will be expected to become an active member of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and make a substantial contribution to the educational mandate of the department and to the wider research and education culture of the Cumming School of Medicine.
  • The successful applicant will dedicate 50% of their time to research related activities.
  • Educating, supervising, mentoring and training medical students, residents, graduate students, and postgraduate students is an important part of this position, as is academic engagement and leadership.
  • Candidates will be expected to show evidence of collaboration and leadership in research and education, including involvement in, and preferably, leadership of multi-disciplinary research teams.
  • An expectation for assuming future academic leadership is expected.
  • The successful candidate will also provide subspecialty head and neck surgical oncology clinical services in collaboration with the three existing head and neck surgeons and members of the Section of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery.
  • The successful applicant will lead an established and high-performing clinical / translational head and neck research program; the Ohlson Research initiative (ORI).
  • The successful applicant will serve as the Executive Director of the Ohlson Research Initiative.
  • The ORI is an endowed research program within the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and includes molecular oncology and health services research scientists as well as support staff.
  • Associated tumour banks and prospective clinical databases are maintained and available.
