Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field such as higher education, student affairs, educational leadership, student personnel services.
  • Three (3) plus years of experience in Student Affairs or Higher Education.
  • Experience in orientation, transition and/or retention (OTR) programs is highly preferred.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of student development and understanding of the current college student to maximize delivery of onboarding strategies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of transition issues and can present strategies for supporting students in transition at all levels in their student experience.
  • Evidence of successfully working with students, specifically through advising student organizations and supervising student staff.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with colleagues at a complex institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment practices and implementing recommendations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement large-scale events, campus calendars, and logistics for fall undergraduate new student Welcome Week programs serving approximately 4,000 students annually.
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with campus stakeholders including staff in Student Experience and all schools and colleges, to coordinate transition and belonging programming and have lead oversight of the fall Welcome schedules.
  • Communicate all required tasks, necessary arrival information, and Welcome Week expectations to new students through newsletters and social media.
  • Develop and implement a detailed an outcome-based plan to recruit new students to participate in all Pre-Welcome programs.
  • Serve as lead liaison with Pre-Welcome programs hosted by departments across campus, inclusive of leading meetings, consistent pre-arrival communication strategies, and provide direction in their program planning.
  • Manage program budget of over $100,000. Develop and analyze program assessment.
  • Implement, manage, and oversee development for high-impact transition programs, initiatives, and events for undergraduate students, inclusive of student mentorship programs, Day One Celebration, and first-year to second-year events.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student leaders responsible for Welcome Week programming.
  • Design and implement student leader training to include diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, as well as role-specific training, wellness, and campus resources.
  • If applicable, supervise graduate student staff member throughout the academic year.
  • Support Summer and Spring Orientation programming through rotating responsibility for responding to and resolving student issues as they may arise during programming, giving presentations, and training Orientation Leaders as needed.
  • Advise Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society executive board; plan and implement induction ceremony each fall; be the lead liaison with the national office.
