Responsibilities

  • Generally, working with underwriters and various business functions including distribution, delegated underwriting management, compliance, conduct and operations, collaborating with UK and international members of the AXA XL legal team on projects, queries, and continuous improvement across Company and Lloyd’s markets;
  • Focussing on issues arising out of delegated underwriting and delegated claims, and distribution. Also providing wider legal advice and support - fielding ad hoc queries from underwriters, wordings, claims, compliance, conduct, and other functions relating to our property, casualty, and specialty lines of business;
  • Assisting AXA XL’s distribution teams in ensuring compliant distribution models with AXA XL’s broking partners in a dynamic and fast moving environment often at the forefront of change – considering feasibility of new and novel ways to distribute business and helping to find solutions;
  • Helping resolve challenges and disputes with distribution partners where they arise, for instance around potential breach of delegated underwriting authority, mishandling of claims by delegated partners, regulatory issues;
  • Reviewing various insurance related documents and developing and supporting the ongoing use of document templates, working collaboratively with teams across the business to ensure stakeholder interests are understood and addressed. Covering Claims Administrator Agreements, Broker Service Agreements, TOBAs and various other Service Agreements including for new and novel services;
  • Collaborating with the business to help support and develop AXA XL’s governance in relation to consumer products with an emphasis on conduct, including Product Oversight and FCA requirements e.g. Consumer Duty, Fair Value;
  • Horizon scanning for future areas of challenge or change within the insurance regulatory and legal framework as well as the insurance industry generally, working collaboratively to identify and consider approaches to address such challenge or change;
  • Assisting with various projects and deadlines, working collaboratively with the legal team and wider business as required;
  • Providing training to the company and its affiliates on legal and regulatory topics, contributing to addressing training and development needs for the business and enhancing legal support;
  • Helping to review and develop arrangements with Irish domiciled internal Service Company. Providing support in relation to outsourcing, in connection with the Service Company and more generally;
  • Participating on internal committees as legal representative, gaining the opportunity to engage with various business functions and understand key aspects of how the business operates, providing legal support as required;
  • Various BAU responsibilities including supporting the review of NDAs and other common insurance agreements and endorsements, as well as legal review of documents produced by the marketing team.
