Responsibilities

  • Accurately record patient history.
  • Retrieve initial basic condition of patients, create nursing history, and report to the appropriate practitioner.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of recordings on patient medical records.
  • Maintain all required reports, records, and statistics.
  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and well-maintained equipment.
  • Inspect area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Schedule all outside patient appointments per physician order and relay information accurately to patients.
  • Take calls from hospitals/nursing homes and relay appropriate information to practitioners promptly.
  • Assure test results are received and relayed to patients in a timely manner.
  • Complete medical orientation checklist.
  • Initiate appropriate patient education.
  • Check patient voicemails and call patients with test results.
  • Follow up on doctor messages and communicate regularly with doctors through the EMR message center.
  • Schedule patient tests (no pre-certification required).
  • Prepare and maintain patient charts, including insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory, and radiology reports.
  • Track and request patient records, slides, and films; document as necessary in the charts.
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments, scans, and tests; confirm appointments and notify appropriate departments in writing of daily and weekly patient schedules.
  • Receive incoming calls to assist patients, physicians, and others with patient-related matters.
  • Relay diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion and conduct follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and no-shows.
  • Perform BP, TPR, and weight on each patient and alert the physician of abnormalities.
  • Perform medical history on each patient prior to being seen by the physician.
  • Maintain medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in the clerical area.
  • Handle pre-certification/referrals.
  • Communicate with home health/infusion clinics as needed.
