What are the primary responsibilities of the Clinical Skills Tutor?
The primary responsibilities include organizing and delivering the Breast Care specialty week for Year 4 students, managing student timetables for clinic, theatre, and ward sessions, direct teaching on breast examination and triple assessment, facilitating case discussions and assessments, and liaising with clinical colleagues to arrange additional learning opportunities.
Is prior experience with breast disease necessary for this role?
Ideally, the post holder should have experience working with patients with breast disease and breast cancer, as this will enhance the delivery of effective teaching.
How often do medical students attend the Breast Care specialty week?
Medical students are attached to the Breast Unit for a one-week teaching programme every week for 32 weeks of term time, from the beginning of September to mid-May.
What additional teaching responsibilities are included outside of the Breast Care specialty weeks?
Outside of the Breast Care weeks, the post holder will work as a Clinical Skills Tutor in Undergraduate Medicine, assisting in delivering teaching and Clinical Competency Assessments (CCAs) and participating in communication skills teaching.
When are the themed case discussions and clinical debriefs held?
Themed case discussions and clinical debrief sessions with medical students are held on Fridays.
How is student assessment carried out in this role?
The post holder will facilitate the assessment and sign-off of students each Friday afternoon, providing opportunities for Q&A and consolidating their clinical and communication skills learning.
