Responsibilities

  • The Variant Scientist functions in the clinical lab interpretive team, evaluating germline next generation test results for patients.
  • The Variant Scientist evaluates functional, computational, clinical, and other data to classify variants utilizing the ACMG 2015 guidelines and summarizes pertinent data for patient reports.
  • Other relevant guidelines may be utilized for evaluating variants.
  • Experience in germline variant interpretation is required with a working knowledge of professional standards for variant classification, specifically ACMG Variant Classification Guidelines including the application of both clinical and functional criteria.
  • Strong background in molecular genetics, human genetics, or related medical specialties is necessary.
  • Experience with variant evaluation in nephrology and inborn errors of immunity (IEI) disease states is preferred but not required.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, clinical laboratory environment in order to meet turn-around-time requirements.
  • Must have computer skills appropriate for laboratory practice.
